The pandemic has brought new uncertainties around food security, and the failures of capitalism have intensified them. Berkshires Democratic Socialists of America invites you to show your solidarity with our neighbors facing hunger by participating in our month-long food drive. Berkshires DSA will collect non-perishable food donations leading to our distribution event to be held at Pittsfield Common on Saturday, December 12, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Themed after one of the labor movement’s historic calls for justice—“bread for all, and roses too!”—this event addresses the immediate need for hunger relief in our community while advocating for economic change and the right to live creatively. Our goal is to pre-pack more than 100 grocery bags with a variety of food items, a handmade rose, and a leaflet highlighting local mutual aid efforts and other community resources.
Please consider donating the following shelf-stable items: applesauce and fruit cups; canned beans, chili, meats, soup, and vegetables (especially those with easy-open pull tabs); cracker packs; dairy and plant-based milks; granola bars; instant coffee; jerky; juice; just-add-water meals; peanut butter and seed butters; pre-packaged nuts and dried fruits; tortillas.
If you would like to get involved or arrange a pick-up or drop-off of donations, please email email@example.com. One of our members will coordinate a collection plan with you. Solidarity!
